Prediction Voting is a core governance and incentive mechanism in Full Sail that harnesses the Wisdom of the Crowd phenomenon to determine the allocation of emissions across liquidity pools. Rather than relying exclusively on retrospective metrics such as historical trading volume or total value locked (TVL), the protocol aggregates forward-looking volume predictions submitted by veSAIL holders. By incorporating the aggregated wisdom of staked participants, Prediction Voting enables more responsive and efficient capital allocation, aligning incentives between liquidity providers, traders, and long-term token holders. This approach distinguishes Full Sail from conventional vote-escrow systems that distribute emissions solely through static gauges or snapshot-based voting.

The Wisdom of the Crowd Principle

The mechanism is grounded in the established social-science observation that, under appropriate conditions, the aggregated judgment of a diverse group often outperforms any single expert or simple heuristic. In Full Sail, veSAIL holders (users who have locked SAIL tokens for voting power) act as the crowd. This collective forecast has been shown in practice to reduce allocation errors and improve overall protocol efficiency compared with purely mechanical or governance-only models.

Participation Requirements

Only veSAIL holders may participate in Prediction Voting. veSAIL is obtained by locking SAIL tokens for a chosen duration, with longer locks yielding higher voting power. To cast a vote, a participant must:
  1. Select one or more eligible liquidity pools in the current epoch
  2. Submit a volume prediction for each selected pool (expressed as the expected total trading volume over the epoch).
  3. Allocate a portion of their available veSAIL as voting power to the submitted prediction(s).
A single veSAIL balance may be split across multiple pools and predictions within the same epoch.

Key Benefits

  • Responsive Allocation: Emissions flow toward pools where the crowd collectively anticipates genuine activity rather than past performance.
  • Skin in the Game: veSAIL allocation ties prediction credibility to economic stake, reducing noise and frivolous votes.
  • Meritocratic Rewards: Skilled forecasters earn higher returns, attracting informed participants and improving aggregate accuracy over time.
  • Protocol Resilience: The Wisdom of the Crowd mechanism has proven robust across market cycles, providing a decentralized alternative to centralized oracle or team-driven decisions.
